"The Poinsettia Series

    A Metaphor"

This series almost wasn't!

Walking to the garbage with yet another wilting poinsettia plant, I studied the plant, noticing a graceful elegance about this transitional stage. Leaves curled into other leaves, some looked like intriguing insects, another looked like a snake. I went back to the studio to take a closer look and to capture what I saw.

I chose to present this plant like a Dutch 17th century painting, with rich gold tones, and deep greens set against a black ground.

Every stage of life has beauty and this plant taught me a new way of seeing and of appreciating our biological environment.
